West Ham star Marko Arnautovic continues stunning goal scoring record in Austria friendly

West Ham’s star forward Mako Arnautovic has three goals in two games for his country this year so far.

Austrian front man Marko Arnautovic took his record of goals in his last 15 appearances for club and country to 10, as he bagged a goal after just four minutes during his national team’s friendly match against Luxembourg last night.

Last Friday, the 28-year-old netted a double against Slovenia, which means his current international goal record stands at 19 in 69 caps.

The forward endured a tough start to life in East London, but Arnautovic has since rediscovering his scoring boots. 10 goals in 15 appearances is a strong record for any player, especially considering he has been playing mainly in a non-dominant Hammers side.

Having arrived for £20 million, a minimal spend for a consistent goal scorer in the modern day climate, the former Werder Bremen star may well be the difference maker in terms of West Ham’s survival.

The Hammers have been on a dreadful run of form, having lost their last three games in embarrassing fashion, conceding 11 goals and scoring only two themselves.

Should West Ham go down, a player of Arnautovic’s quality would surely demand a move away, giving the forward double incentive to continue performing in the last eight games of the season. Not only will be playing to help his team’s survival chances, but he could also be potentially playing for a move away elsewhere, as David Moyes’ men in real danger of going down.

Arnautovic was not the only West Ham player who impressed on international duty, which leads you to think how exactly the Hammers find themselves in such a dire situation in the league.

On top of the Austrian’s trio of goals during the international break, Manuel Lanzini was also on hand to score for Argentina, Declan Rice was named man of the match in his game for Ireland, whilst earlier on in the season Javier Hernandez became Mexico’s all time leading scorer with 49 strikes.

There appears to be an underlying framework of a very strong team in East London, and if they can get through this season by avoiding relegation, Moyes’ men could become a force with a bit of luck next term.
