The 27-year-old Frenchman has played five times for his national team but has barely featured in the last couple of seasons and West Ham United could move.

Yesterday it was reported by the Sun that West Ham United had approached Lyon attacking midfielder Clement Grenier over signing for the London club when his current deal expires.

The Frenchman’s Lyon contract is due to finish at the end of this season, and it is believed that West Ham boss David Moyes hopes to sign the 27-year-old on a three-year deal as he looks to bolster his attacking options.

Grenier has played over 150 games for Lyon, scoring 18 goals and would be a decent signing for the Hammers. However, his lack of minutes on the pitch over the last few seasons has led some fans to doubt him.

Should Moyes move for Grenier this window, it has been reported that he would cost West Ham a fee of £1million; not a bad deal for a French international footballer. Yet with the Hammers sitting comfortably at the moment in 11th, it may make more sense to save themselves the fee and sign the midfielder on a pre-contract agreement.

Grenier may never have been a household name in the world football, but his already low status has plummeted since his severe lack of appearances in recent times.

As always, in the wake of a new transfer rumour the fans have taken to Twitter to express their opinions.

Here is a look at some of the reactions following the news of the potential deal…
