West Ham fans comment on prospect of selling Andy Carroll

Andy Carroll has shown many glimpses of promise throughout his time in East London, but his West Ham United career has been severely disrupted by injury.

West Ham United’s Andy Carroll has never quite lived up to the expectations having dominated the headlines as a youngster during his time at Newcastle United.

Carroll rose to prominence in his early twenties, when he bagged 30 goals in one and a half seasons for the Magpies before earning a big money move to Liverpool. Unfortunately for the striker, his time at Anfield was a major disappointment, and he has since spent the last six seasons with West Ham, struggling to rediscover the scoring form of his 21-year-old self.

At 29, Carroll still has plenty football left in him, and remains an imposing figure at the top end of the pitch. At 6ft4in, the nine-capped England forward is about as big as they come, and has a similar frame to the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Unfortunately for Carroll, he simply does not seem to possess the prolific goal-scoring ability of the players mentioned above, and his current Hammers record stands at 33 goals in 125 appearances.

With the summer transfer window rapidly approaching, and West Ham on the lookout for a striker addition, fans have taken to Twitter to express their opinion on whether or not to keep Carroll at the club. The reactions have been a mixed bag, with some calling for him to be sold and others suggesting he still has plenty to offer.

Carroll is by no means a bad player but, if West Ham wish to develop into the club they keep chatting about, perhaps the 29-year-old is not the man for the job.
