The Watford centre-back made his first Premier League start since November against Liverpool on the weekend.
Uruguayan centre-half Miguel Britos was unable to help Watford avoid a thrashing from Liverpool as he returned to the starting lineup in the league for the first time since November.
On the day, Liverpool socred five against The Hornets with Mohamed Salah, a contender for the European Golden Shoe, hitting four past Orestis Karnezis.
So far, Salah has scored a stunning 36 goals in all competitions, including 28 in the league and following the defeat, Britos was brutally honest with his assessment of how the game had went and what it was like to defend against a player of Salah’s quality.
The Uruguayan explained how ‘tired’ he was post-match having defended against the Egyptian’s blinding pace and apologised to the fans for the result, vowing to come back stronger in the next fixture.
“Everyone is upset, angry as well because we didn’t play the way we wanted or prepared,” Britos told the official Watford website.
“I did a lot of mistakes and I want to forget this game as quickly as possibly and to prepare for the next game at home for three points.
“Salah is very strong player, very quick.”
Watford are not the only team to have been tormented by the free scoring Salah this season. Even European powerhouse clubs such as Porto have been torn apart, and Britos should not be too disheartened by the loss, especially considering his lack of minutes in the Premier League in recent months.
Nonetheless, should Salah continue his mesmerising form this season into the future, more and more defenders are going to be left with similar feelings to Britos in the coming years.
