As Liverpool prepare to host Manchester City in the Champions League, Virgin van Dijk sends a word of warning to Pep Guardiola’s men.

Tomorrow evening, Liverpool will play host to Manchester City as the two giants are set for an all-English Champions League semi-final. Both teams have been in fine form this season, however City have certainly pipped it in terms of class as the near-certain Premier League champions.

That being said, Liverpool masterminded a victory over City at home and have made Anfield arguably the toughest ground to visit in the country and, as a result, you simply cannot rule the five-time European Cup holders out.

However, with most predicting City to make it through with no problem, Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk believes his Egyptian teammate Mohamed Salah has it in him to induce a sense of fear into any side, having lit the European stage alight this season with his 37 strikes so far.

According to the Mirror, van Dijk said: “That’s what everyone knows, that with a player like Mo [Salah] we can do damage to any team. That’s how we feel as well.

“Everybody can see how much quality he has got, how many goals he has been scoring, and that’s important.

“It makes us better. That’s what we want, that’s what it’s going to be like at a top club. When he is 100% and in the zone then he can beat anyone.”

It may be true that Salah can beat anyone when he is in the zone but, unfortunately for Liverpool, the same can be said for City’s attacking trio. Perhaps the only three players comparable to the Reds’ deadly front three, Leroy Sane, Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling have also destroyed defences for fun this season and van Dijk and co will have a serious job at hand in terms of keeping the City attack at bay.

All is lined up for a Champions League classic tomorrow night and,as van Dijk warned, with Salah in their ranks Liverpool cannot be entirely overlooked.
