The Daily Record has confirmed that Celtic youngster Kieran Tierney, 20, has played more games this season for club and country than any other footballer in a European top flight league.

Celtic, whose season kicks off in July with the second round of Champions League qualifying fixtures, have always endured a notoriously long season, regularly reaching the finals of both domestic cups, while often playing at least 12 European fixtures in the qualifying rounds and group stage.

With international games to play on top of this, Tierney has already reached an astounding 46 games for Scotland and Celtic so far this season, and that figure is set to keep growing.

In total, Tierney has played 41 games for the Hoops this term, picking up a further five Scotland caps along the way. His most recent international appearance came in a draw against the Netherlands, where he captained his country for the first time aged only 20.

Tierney’s Celtic teammates James Forrest and Craig Gordon are close behind on 45 games, while Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford and Chelsea’s Willian make up the rest of the top five, with 44 and 43 appearances/caps respectively.

Since establishing himself as a first-team regular, Tierney has gone from strength to strength, attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs with his stunning consistency.

The left-back has already notched up 114 appearances for the Hoops, winning both back-to-back league titles and SPFA Young Player of the Year awards.

With so many minutes on the pitch under his belt already this season, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers should be wary of burning the youngster out.

Having allowed Emilio Izaguirre to leave in the summer, Celtic’s only other senior left-back is 20-year-old Calvin Miller who has featured only three times for the Hoops since his debut last season.

Tierney’s continual form and efforts are testament to just how brilliant a player he really is, as with a whole season worth of games already under his belt, he has shown no sign of slowing down.
