Should Tottenham and Arsenal consider former Manchester United star Memphis Depay?

The Dutchman has been flying since his move to Ligue 1 and could be worth taking a punt on for Tottenham Hotspur or Arsenal.

Former Manchester United player Memphis Depay, 23, has seemingly rediscovered the deadly form that earned him a move to England in the first place.

After failing to impress at Old Trafford the Dutchman was shipped out to Ligue 1 side Lyon, where he has since flourished.

Depay scored a stunning injury-time winner against league giants PSG to secure victory for his side, in what was only the league leaders’ second defeat of the entire season. In doing so, Depay helped Lyon close the gap at the top to eight points, which could play a huge part in the title run in.

With Tottenham and Arsenal both reportedly interested in landing a winger, could the former Eredivisie top scorer be the answer to their problems?

Depay has netted 11 goals in 28 games this season and has been heavily influential on his team’s performances. Despite failing to impress at Old Trafford, at the age of 23, the Lyon player remains one of Europe’s brightest young talents.

Blessed with both pace and power Depay has a clear eye for goal and could provide the extra spark that both North London clubs are in search of. Both clubs have been chasing the signature of fellow Ligue 1 wide man Malcom, however, neither club seem to close to a deal.

The 20-year-old Brazilian has reportedly rejected a contract offer from Arsenal and has supposedly been in contact with Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Lyon will not want to part ways with Depay just yet, with the youngster having grown to become such an integral part of the team, however, a second shot at life in England may be too tempting for the Dutch international to turn down.

It should be mentioned that United were quick to ensure that Depay’s Lyon contract had both a buy-back clause and sell-on clause, with the Old Trafford club clearly hopeful that he develops into the player they were hoping he would be when he signed from PSV.

With this in mind, Arsenal and Tottenham should act quickly before Depay continues to improve as a player, and United come back looking to exercise their buy-back option.
