Celtic have had quite the tradition of signing Hibs stars in recent seasons. Should this be continued with an approach for Simon Murray?
Over the last decade or so Celtic have maintained quite the tradition of signing Hibernian’s top players. More often than not the transfers have paid off, with the likes of Scott Brown, Anthony Stokes and Leigh Griffiths all immediately springing to mind.
Brown’s Celtic career speaks for itself, with his deputy Callum McGregor publicly paying him the highest of compliments hailing Brown as one of Celtic’s greatest ever captains.
Stokes, who is now back at Hibs, signed for Celtic in 2010 and went on to score 76 goals in 191 games for the Bhoys, forming a lethal partnership with Gary Hooper.
Griffiths, who has been linked with a move away from Celtic this month, greatly impressed during his two-year loan at Hibs, paving the way for his move to Parkhead where he since notched an impressive 94 goals in 166 games so far.
With both Griffiths and Moussa Dembele being linked with other clubs this January, why not continue the tradition and look to bring in current Hibs front man Simon Murray as a reinforcement?
After all, he has been in rather impressive scoring form himself this season, with 14 goals in 25 games so far.
The 25-year-old former Dundee United player has proved his scoring ability in Scotland and scored an absurd seven goals in his first four appearances for the Leith club.
He has not managed to maintain such form throughout the entire season, however, at his best – with the exception of a few others – his quality feels unrivalled among his Hibs counterparts, and should Murray finish the season with a goal tally into the twenties he may well be worth a punt from Celtic.
Hibs recently turned down a six-figure bid for the 25-year-old from Turkish side Elazigspor and have no intention of selling him according to The Scotsman. That may be a different story should Celtic come calling.
