In the last decade of football, Sunderland have only won 100 league games.

Since the 2007/2008 season, Sunderland have only recorded 100 league wins, averaging just 10 victories per league campaign.

In that decade, the club have had 13 different managers (including two caretaker managers) and look certain to be relegated for the second year running, this time into League One.

Had Sunderland even come close to winning 10 league games this season, perhaps they would actually have stood a chance of survival. However, with only five wins to date, they have not even been able to maintain their average number of wins across the last decade, despite playing in the division below.

In fact, not only have the club only won 100 league games since 2007/2008, but this has been the lowest number of victories by any team in England’s top four leagues by an astounding gap of 35 games, placing Sunderland among the worst performing clubs in the entire country.

With this in mind, the Black Cats fans actually deserve massive credit for sticking by their team through thick and thin. After some West Ham United fans’ actions during their match against Burnley two weeks ago, nothing of the sort has been seen at the Stadium of Light.

Should West Ham ever experience a double relegation like Sunderland look set to this season, you could only imagine the anger that would ensue.

Sunderland fans should look to Bolton Wanderers for some form of consolation, as the North West English side experienced similar fortunes after being relegated from the Championship two seasons ago.

However, since their drop into the third tier, Bolton secured automatic promotion at the first time of asking and look likely to avoid relegation once again as they aim to stabilise their status in the Championship before attempting to build upwards with eyes on a return to the top flight in the future.
