The former Scotland manager and Celtic captain have been embroiled in a war of words since Celtic’s dominant win over Hearts last month.

Craig Levein has hit back at Scott Brown once again, continuing the war of words between the former Scotland gaffer and captain, according to the Daily Record.

It all kicked off when Levein criticised Brown for a crunching tackle on 16-year-old Hearts prospect Harry Cochrane, which left the teenager with an injured collar bone.

Since Levein’s original comments, the Celtic skipper has received much backing from fans and pundits, as well as his own manager Brendan Rodgers, all of whom were quick to point out that Brown’s challenge was neither malicious nor reckless.

Nevertheless, Levein has levelled further accusations towards Brown, claiming that he deliberately got himself in the book to avoid the chance of receiving a suspension which could see him miss next month’s Glasgow derby against Rangers.

As reported by the Daily Record, Levein’s words were in response to comments made by Brown regarding his own yellow card, with the Hoops captain claiming that the Hearts boss had ‘done his job’ by getting him booked after his first challenge of the game.

Levein’s response was as follows: “On that front actually, Scott Brown mentioned last week that he got booked because of me bringing attention to his proclivity to foul people.

“I disagree with that completely. If Scott didn’t get booked against Kilmarnock last week and got booked against St Johnstone (on February 18) then he would have missed the Rangers game.

“I’ll leave that to you to deduce.”

It will come as a surprise to most that the former Scotland boss is continuing to fuel the war of words between himself and the man he used to select as national team captain.

The Hearts boss has done terrifically well since re-appointing himself as the club’s manager, however,he should surely be more focused on trying to leapfrog Hibs into the top four instead of continuing to hit back at the Bhoys skipper.

Nevertheless, the reaction from Celtic fans regarding Levein’s comments have been coming in thick and fast on Twitter as expected, with most ridiculing the former Scotland boss for not backing down on the issue.

Here is a round up of some of the reaction:
