Celtic’s attacking midfield star Stuart Armstrong has had a relatively disappointing season so for, missing much of it through injury.

Stuart Armstrong is seen during a training session prior to the International Friendly match between Scotland and Costa Rica at Orium Sports Centre on March 19, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong has a great opportunity to rediscover some form with Scotland, ahead of the season run-in on the domestic scene.

Despite being out of Europe, there is still both the league and Scottish Cup to play for, including a semi-final match at Hampden Park against Rangers.

Armstrong has barely featured for the club in 2018 after missing a long period after a hernia operation. Last season, the 25-year-old enjoyed the form of this life, bagging 17 goals in a stunning campaign all round. This term, with only three goals, he has offered little compared to the attacking threat from 2016/2017, and has been a major reason why Celtic’s attacking prowess has dropped a level or two.

Having only recently broken into the national team set up under Gordon Strachan, the former Dundee United man now has a good chance to continue where he left off, building on his four Scotland caps by potentially adding a couple more against Costa Rica and Hungary.

Ross McCrorie of Rangers vies with Stuart Armstrong of Celtic during the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Ranger at Celtic Park on December 30, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

With a new coach having come in, Armstrong will be out to impress Alex McLeish and, in turn, could well find his best form to bring back to Celtic Park.

With Tom Rogic, Charly Musonda and Callum McGregor, to name a few, all vying for a similar spot on the pitch to the 25-year-old, Brendan Rodgers is spoilt for choice, and has opted to go with the Australian in recent months.

Armstrong was heavily linked with a move away both last summer and in January, with a number of Premier League clubs seemingly interested in his services. However, having barely featured recently and unable to demonstrate his qualities, should the midfielder still want to leave the Hoops, how he fares in the remainder of the season could determine which teams come calling for him, adding further incentive to perform for Scotland.

Either way, the Celtic ace will simply be itching to get back out on to the pitch having missed so much important football over the last couple months, and Rodgers will welcome the return of the Armstrong of old.
