Rangers and Graeme Murty were unable to bounce back from the Celtic defeat, losing 1-0 to Kilmarnock on Saturday.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Kilmarnock at Ibrox Stadium on March 17, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Barry Ferguson has spoken of his belief that Graeme Murty has not done enough to secure the Rangers job ahead of next season, when speaking to PLZ Soccer on 21 March 2018.

The Rangers manager still has the Scottish Cup to play for and, should he win that, will surely have a real chance of keeping his job. However, recent results and performances have left many Gers fans questioning whether they actually believe the Englishman is the man for the job.

Losing to Celtic is one thing, especially when you take the lead twice and have a man advantage, however, for former Gers captain Ferguson, it was the follow up result that left him most disappointed.

“I’m more disappointed, not just the Celtic game and the result, it was the game after it, I think that’s the big one, the Kilmarnock game,” Ferguson told PLZ Soccer.

“I fully expected Rangers to get the three points, get a major reaction.”

Ferguson went on to explain that it is now down to the Rangers board to end the uncertainty and make a decision, saying that it was not fair on Murty, nor the fans.

“At this moment in time if you’re a manager you’re looking at your recruitment for next season, but nobody knows what’s happening. It’s looking like it’ll be a difficult one to appoint Graeme Murty,” Ferguson added.

When asked to give a definitive answer on whether or not Murty will be Rangers manager at the start of next season, the ex-midfielder simply replied, ‘No’.

Should the Rangers manager not be handed a new contract, it is not to say that his time at the club is over. There is still a strong chance he could stay on as an assistant or in his former youth coach role. One thing is for sure, and that is that Murty looks like a real managerial prospect for the future, and his transformation of Rangers cannot be ignored.
