The Rangers duo have had a hand in 17 goals each so far this season and are inspiring some dominant collective goal-scoring displays from the team.

Alfredo Morelos and Josh Windass took their involvement in number of goals this season to an impressive 17 each, after the pair both scored in last night’s Rangers victory over St Johnstone away.

Prior to the game, Morelos had netted 12 goals and recorded four assists in the league, while Windass had bagged 11 and provided six assists.

With a hand in 17 goals each now, Windass stands as the league’s third top scorer while Morelos continues to top the table on 13.

So far this campaign, Graeme Murty’s men have scored 59 times in the league, meaning the star duo have been directly involved in an astounding 58 per cent of all Rangers’ top flight goals; not bad at all for a newcomer and a man who only found the net once last campaign.

Before the start of the season, you would have predicted the battle for top scorer to be between the likes of Moussa Dembele, Scott Sinclair and Leigh Griffiths, given the evidence of last season’s treble-winning campaign over at Celtic. Instead, it appears to be between two Rangers stars and a former Gers legend in Kris Boyd, who sits as the second top scorer on 12 goals, having enjoyed a recent prolific period for Kilmarnock.

Rangers’ free scoring should be pleasing to Murty and the fans, yet the club should be wary of their defensive lapses at times.

Celtic’s defence has been at the centre of heavy criticism from start to present this season but, having conceded 18 goals in the league compared to Rangers’ 32, the stronger defence is evident for all to see.

Matches such as the Hamilton victory earlier this month, when the Gers ran out 5-3 victors, must be ruled out if they are to build on their recent strong results and continue to bright the cap against Celtic.

The Hoops have demonstrated their ability to score against Europe’s finest in PSG and Bayern Munich this season and, if their forwards are capable of that, they will be having a field day against a defence that conceded three sloppy goals against 10th-placed Hamilton.

Nonetheless, Rangers should make best use of the current scoring form of Windass and Morelos as they head towards the season run-in, with a massive game against Celtic coming up in just 11 days.
