Rangers have been free scoring in recent weeks, but Barry Ferguson believes Celtic will come out all guns blazing.

Former Rangers captain and club stalwart Barry Ferguson was on hand to provide his assessment ahead of this Sunday’s Old Firm Derby when speaking to PLZ Soccer.

Ferguson, 40, is more familiar with the demands of the fixture dubbed by many as the fiercest rivalry in world football, having been on both the winning and losing end plenty of times during his 13 seasons with Rangers.

Having won their last six fixtures in free scoring fashion, the former Gers midfielder believes we can expect much of the same from Murty’s men and that Sunday will not be a low scoring affair.

However, the 40-year-old does not believe the goals will be restricted to his former side, and backs his ex-rivals to net a few of their own.

Speaking to PLZ Soccer, Ferguson said: “I think there’s going to be goals for the simple fact that I think Rangers need to win the game if they’ve got any chance of putting a challenge up for the league title.

“At the same hand I think Celtic will come to Ibrox and go for Rangers, so I think there’s going to be goals in it.”

The atmosphere at Ibrox will be absolutely electric on Sunday and one advantage Celtic have over their rivals right now is experience of the fixture.

Many of the current Rangers starting XI who arrived in January have no history of playing in this derby and, if previous encounters are anything to go, the pressure on game day can be overwhelming for those yet to experience it.

The Celts can take confidence in their own experiences in playing in this fixture, almost all of whom have tasted victory in impressive fashion with the club’s record-breaking 5-1 victory over the Gers at Ibrox last season.

Nonetheless, with the home crowd advantage, the Rangers team will have a ’12th man’ on Sunday and Ferguson backs his old side to get the better of the Hoops.

“Rangers will just nick it,” Ferguson added. “I’ll go 3-2 Rangers.”
