Midfielder Sean Longstaff has found his scoring boots on loan this season, and will have done no harm for his chance of playing time at Newcastle next season.
The 20-year-old fired home a useful strike from 25 yards in the 62nd minute to put his side 2-0 up – his second goal in four days having also bagged one in Blackpool’s 5-0 romping of Bradford on Saturday.
The youngster joined Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership on loan last season, picking up some valuable first team experience as a teenager, and was sent back to Blackpool at the beginning of the current campaign.
So far, Longstaff has made over 40 appearances scoring nine goals and is the club’s joint stop scorer along with striker Kyle Vassell.
Longstaff’s goal scoring prowess has seemingly come out of nowhere, having only bagged three goals in the league throughout the entirety of his time at Kilmarnock.
Despite playing in League One, the young midfielder will have done his chances at Newcastle no harm at all, and he will have undoubtedly captured the attention of Rafa Benitez.
A step up to the Premier League next will be huge, but Longstaff has demonstrated that he is worth nurchuring, and he could serve as a useful deputy to the likes of Jonjo Shelvey and Mo Diame in midfield in due course.
Longstaff’s ability to play centrally and on the left will mean he will be attractive to the Newcastle manager, and as a home grown talent, Longstaff could be a bright Newcastle prospect in the coming years.
