The all-time Premier League top scorer had his say on Newcastle United’s business with an hour remaining in the transfer window.
Last night Premier League legend Alan Shearer urged his former club to break the bank and bring in some new faces in the dying hours of the transfer window, in the hope that Newcastle United can salvage their season.
Burnley visited St. James’ Park on Wednesday evening and left with a point, which will leave Rafa Benitez’s men mightily disappointed having had opportunities to seal the win.
Before the Burnley match, Newcastle had brought in only one new face in the form of Chelsea youngster Kenedy.
The Brazilian put in a magnificent performance and was a catalyst for the Newcastle attack from start to finish, however, as the only January arrival, the club were still in desperate need of a striker.
Newcastle had seen most of their targets move on to other clubs and were seemingly unable to attract signatures of any of their shortlisted players.
Earlier in the week the club missed out on the chance to sign Daniel Sturridge on loan from Liverpool, who opted to join West Bromwich Albion in a big blow to Benitez.
Following the Burnley draw, Shearer tweeted his support for the fans and drew attention to the club’s TV and ticket revenue, urging the club to spend what they could on bringing in some new faces.

Slimani will provide a much needed focal point to Newcastle’s attack and hopefully can be the one to discover his scoring boots and help the club’s abysmal goal scoring efforts this season.
The 29-year-old should be looking to finish the season as his side’s main man, with current top scorers Ayoze Perez and Joselu only on four goals each. Having been chasing a striker for the entire January window, Benitez will be thrilled with the addition of the Algerian.
On top of this, Slovakian international Dubravka will also be a welcome addition between the sticks, after some seriously sub-par performances from Karl Darlow.
The 6ft 6in towering shot stopper is internationally proven and brings bags of European experience, with even a season of Champions League football under his belt from 2010/2011.
