The Baggies have seemingly strengthened at centre-half to brace themselves for the Northern Irishman’s departure

West Bromwich Albion have signed centre-back Ali Gabr, 29, from Egyptian side Zamalek.
The club have made it a priority to strengthen the heart of defence given Jonny Evans’ strong links with a move away.
The former Manchester United player has been subject to interest from a whole host of clubs including Arsenal and Manchester City, with the Gunners appearing to lead the way in the chase.

Gabr initially joins on a half-a-season loan from Zamalek, however, should Evans leave, it is believed that the Baggies have the option to make the deal permanent, according to The Sun.
The 6ft4in defender is an Egyptian Premier League champion and has won 18 caps for his country, finishing as a runner up in last year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
It is expected that Gabr will fly to England sometime this week to complete his move, which could well signal the end of Jonny Evans’ career at The Hawthorns.

Evans, 30, arrived at West Brom from Manchester United in 2015 and has consistently been one of the league’s finest central defenders.
With a number of team’s after genuine Premier League quality at centre-half, Evans has been at the centre of some transfer rumours for quite some time now.
A three-time Premier League champion with United, the Daily Star have reported that Arsenal could push through a deal for £20million to bring Evans to the Emirates Stadium before Sunday, as Wenger looks to secure his signature before the end of the window.
