West Ham United reportedly believe they have a better chance of landing the English midfielder after Newcastle United strengthened their squad.

West Ham United manager David Moyes is ready to step up his interest in Newcastle United’s Jonjo Shelvey, 25, after it was confirmed that Chelsea’s Kenedy would be making the move to St James’s Park according to The Sun.
Kenedy, who can play as a left-wing and a left-back, joins Newcastle on loan until the end of the season.
Moyes had already made an enquiry regarding Shelvey’s services earlier this month. However, he was knocked back due to the fact that Newcastle could not afford to lose another player.

With Magpies boss Rafa Benitez having landed one of his top targets in Kenedy, Moyes believes he now has a far stronger chance of bringing in Shelvey, with Newcastle having brought in sufficient reinforcements to now sanction a move.
West Ham have highlighted midfield as an area that requires strengthening this month and initially showed interest in Newcastle’s Shelvey and Stoke City’s Joe Allen.

With approaches for both players having been rejected, the East London club has since turned their attention abroad, considering moves for Clement Grenier of Lyon and Anderlecht’s Leander Dendoncker.
In fact, it has been reported in the Sun that Stuart Pearce, Moyes’ deputy, will be making a personal trip to Belgium in an attempt to persuade Dendoncker, who is valued at £20million, to make the switch to England.
That being said, it is believed that Moyes prioritises the signing of a Premier League proven player, with Shelvey topping the list in terms of potential West Ham recruits.
