Newcastle United’s on-loan Slovakian international Martin Dubravka has been brilliant since arriving in January.
After just three Newcastle United appearances, January loan arrival Martin Dubravka has been named the club’s Player of the Month for February.
The Slovakian international goalkeeper arrived in Newcastle on deadline day from Sparta Prague and has enjoyed a terrific start to life with the Magpies.
His debut could not have gone much better as he produced a magnificent performance against Manchester United, pulling off some remarkable saves and earning his side a clean sheet, with Matt Ritchie’s strike enough to earn all three points.
In his further two appearances, Dubravka has also proved his worth through his shot stopping and, despite conceding four goals across a draw and a loss against Bournemouth and Liverpool respectively, the 29-year-old could not have done anything to keep the ball out of the net on each occasion.
In just three games for Newcastle, Dubravka has already become one of the first names on the team sheet.
The 2-0 loss against The Reds may have been his first taste of defeat in a Magpies shirt, however, away at Anfield, when the home side has enjoyed over 70% possession and double the amount of shots compared to Newcastle, losing 2-0 is no embarrassment.
Given the abysmal form of Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot earlier in the campaign, signing Dubravka permanently appears all the more important, especially on his February showing, which saw him earn Player of the Month at the first time of asking.
The Sparta Prague owned shot-stopper gained 60% of the supporters’ votes, edging out fellow January arrival Kenedy and forward Dwight Gayle for February’s prize.
If Newcastle manage to avoid the drop this term, Dubravka will have played a huge part in that.
