West Ham attacking midfielder Marcus Browne has been nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month Award for February after some impressive performances for the Hammers development side.

Browne, 20, recently returned from a knee injury to skipper the under-23s, leading them to victories over both Liverpool and Sunderland.

The youngster will be hoping his performances for West Ham’s development team will be enough to catch the attention of manager David Moyes, as he looks to earn his Premier League debut. Browne has featured only once for the senior team – in the Europa League back in 2016 under then manager Slaven Bilic.

The shortlist for the award includes the following: Lewis Hardcastle (Blackburn Rovers), Reece James (Chelsea), Lewis Walker (Derby County), Tahith Chong (Manchester United) and Tyrese Campbell (Stoke City).

Speaking to the West Ham official website, the 20-year-old spoke of the frustrations of being out injured, however, insisted that despite the confidence knock, all he was focused on was getting himself back up to scratch to help the team.

“It’s so frustrating being injured, especially coming back from a long-term injury and then picking up another one so soon. Coming in every day, the boys would be going out to train and I’d have to go and work with the physio department team in the gym trying to get myself back,” Browne explained.

“Football is what I do and it’s what I’m good at so nothing else really crossed my mind apart from getting myself physically right and back in the team.”

Landing the player of the month award would complete Browne’s strong comeback and will do his chances of senior West Ham recognition a lot of good.
