Liverpool’s sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona has dominated the headlines since its confirmation on Sunday.

Since the Brazilian star’s departure from Anfield there has been much discussion over the rest of Liverpool’s season. Do they have what it takes to make the top four without Coutinho? Or will the gulf left by their talismanic play-maker simply be too much to fill despite their recent £75million of Virgil van Dijk from Southampton?

Speaking live on ESPN FC today, former West Ham United and and Newcastle United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop has publicly backed Jurgen Klopp’s squad explaining that, even with the omission of Coutinho, “Liverpool’s front three are as good as you can get.”

“Yes, losing Coutinho is a blow,” Hislop said. “It also takes a lot of options away from Jurgen Klopp, meaning they can’t afford inconsistencies and they can’t afford injuries.”

However, speaking about their chances of making the top four without Coutinho, Hislop explained, “They can cope.”

Let us not forget that, despite splashing out the big bucks to land their number one target van Dijk, with Coutinho’s sale likely to rise to £142m, Liverpool have plenty of time and cash to bring in some new faces before the end of the window.
