Reported Liverpool target Javi Pastore comments on his future

PSG’s Argentinian midfielder Javier Pastore has been a key figure around the Parc des Princes since his arrival in 2011, with Liverpool emerging as the latest club to show interest.

In similar fashion to Emre Can, PSG attacking midfielder Javier Pastore has revealed he will not be making any decisions regarding his future until the summer.

The 28-year-old has somewhat fallen behind in the pecking order under Unai Emery and could likely move on from Paris in the summer window, and Liverpool may be a potential likely suitor given the gulf left in their squad by the departure of Philippe Coutinho having emerged this winter as admirers of Pastore with Talk Sport suggesting they are keeping a close eye on the player.

Pastore has played nearly 250 games for PSG across seven seasons, scoring 44 goals and recording 54 assists. His quality is undoubted and he would no doubt be a massive addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad, already heavily peppered with attacking talent.

Speaking to Spanish Radio station Onda Cero on 24th March 2018, Pastore said: “My cycle in Paris is coming to an end, I realise. We will see for my future. I still have a year on my contract.

“I do not have clear ideas yet,” he said. “I do not know how it will end. I will be focused on the end of the season, to finish this year well. You have to try to win the championship and the cups.”

With only one year remaining on his current deal, if the Argentinian is not handed a new contract it is likely the two parties will part ways this summer so that the club can recoup some money from his potential sale.

The next step for Liverpool is to step it up a notch to become a side worthy of winning silverware, and the best way to achieve such a thing is to have winners in your squad.

Pastore has won 16 trophies during his time with PSG so far, including four league titles. With nearly 50 games in the European competition under his belt as well, the attacking midfielder could present a real bargain for the Reds, and would be a fine alternative to Coutinho to play in the the hole behind the striker.
