Liverpool’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain netted a stunning strike against Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-final first leg.
Liverpool are just 90 minutes away from reaching the Champions League semi-final for the first time since the 2007/2008 season, after thumping Manchester City 3-0 at Anfield last week.
Goals from Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane were more than enough to down the Premier League champions elect as Pep Guardiola’s side were embarrassed by Jurgen Klopp’s rampant Liverpool warriors.
In a similar way to the 4-3 thriller in January between the two sides, Manchester City were unable to match the pressure and intensity of Liverpool’s impressive group of players. In fact, the visitors did not even record a single shot on target, leaving Loris Karius with little to do.
At the Etihad this evening, you would imagine that things will be slightly different and the tie is by no means over.
Prior to the second leg, Oxlade-Chamberlain tweeted a picture of himself training in part of the team’s pre-match preparations for tonight’s game and received an overwhelming response from the Liverpool fans.
The midfielder came under much criticism in the early stages of the season after arriving from Arsenal, but has done well to silence his critics – emerging as a vital component to Liverpool’s recent success.
Some fans even went as far to compare the midfielder to Philippe Coutinho and Steven Gerrard, whilst most others simply urged the England man to nick another goal, with one away strike probably enough to send them through the tie.
