Gerrard says Liverpool youngster Liam Millar’s Canada call-up is deserved

Liam Miller has been performing well for Liverpool’s youth side under the guidance of head coach Steven Gerrard.

Liverpool academy star Liam Miller has earned a full international call-up to the Canada senior team after impressing time and time again for the young Reds.

The 18-year-old sensation announced himself to the Liverpool fans with a hat-trick on his debut for the academy side, and has gone on to excel further under the guidance of youth coach Steven Gerrard.

The striker was named as part of Canada’s 22-man-squad to take on New Zealand in Spain later this month and could not contain his excitement, citing the call up as a dream come true.

His inclusion may have come as a surprise for the teenager. However, Gerrard explained to the Liverpool website that the call-up was fully deserved, and praised the youngster’s contribution to both the under-18 and under-23 sides this term.

“It’s a special moment for him and he deserves it,” the U18s boss told the Reds website.

“He’s worked really hard for that opportunity. Liam’s jumped up from the U18s to the U23s of late along with four or five other players.”

The striker himself went on record to say: “It’s always been a dream of mine to represent Canada because it is my country, where I was born and raised.

“It’s one of the main things I dreamed about when I was a kid so it’s a dream come true.”

Millar will likely lead the line for the Liverpool development side set to compete against Manchester City’s youth team in the UEFA Youth League quarter-finals later today.

If he continues to perform and finishes the season strongly, there is no doubt he will likely be featuring soon in Jurgen Klopp’s first-team.
