Bristol City defeated Birmingham City for the first time this millennium yesterday evening.
An early goal from Marlon Pack set the tone for what turned out to be a historic victory for Bristol City last night over Birmingham.
The Robins ran out 3-1 victors over Garry Monk’s side after further goals from Bobby Reid and Matty Taylor, whilst Lukas Jutkiewicz’s first half goal was the only consolation for Birmingham.
The win marked Bristol City’s first over the Blues since 1993, much to the delight of manager Lee Johnson, who was thrilled with the performance of his players.
“The performance was aggressive, energetic, it was a tough game, they were on good form, obviously with three wins and a draw, so they came here very confident,” Johnson explained to BCTV.
Reid’s strike marked his 20th goal of the season as he pulls ahead as the club’s top scorer this term, and Johnson was quick to praise his star midfielder turned forward after another wonderful performance.
The manager said: “I’m very pleased with that goal and very pleased for Bobby, it’s exceptional to go and get 20 goals considering it’s his first season as a striker.”
In eighth place, things are tight for Bristol City as they gear up to make a late push for a play-off spot. The Robins remains one point behind Middlesbrough, and two points behind Derby and Milwall, with four games left to play in the regular season.
