Graeme Murty’s chances of keeping his job have slimmed with losses to Kilmarnock and Celtic in the space of two weeks, with Steve Clarke an alleged target.
Kilmarnock ace Jordan Jones has opened up on the rumours regarding Rangers’ interest in his manager Steve Clarke.
The Northern Ireland international has himself been linked with a move to Rangers, with the Ibrox club thought to be keen on bringing the 23-year-old in and, by the sounds of it, maybe aiming for a double swoop by landing Clarke if Graeme Murty fails to keep his job next season.
Question marks have been raised about Murty following the former youth coach’s losses to 10-man Celtic and Kilmarnock in the space of two weeks, essentially ending Rangers’ title hopes for this season.
As Clarke’s name continues to be linked as part of Rangers’ list of potential candidates for the Ibrox hot seat, Jones has stated the collective Killie players’ wishes for their manager to stay, after he transformed their season since joining in mid-October.
According to the Sun, the 23-year-old said: “If you ask any player at Kilmarnock, they would all be desperate for him to stay.
“He has been fantastic for all the lads and fantastic for the club as a whole. He has also made a positive impact on the whole town, so everyone is desperate for him to stay with Kilmarnock.”
Should Rangers be unable to secure their January loan arrivals on permanent deals, the interest in Jones may well be revisited by the Govan based club, who will have to pay much more than the £350,000 offer rejected in January and was ‘easy to turn down’ according to Clarke.
