Liverpool beat Troy Deeney’s Watford 5-0 after four goals and an assist from Mohamed Salah.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed Troy Deeney’s impressive gesture after being on the losing side in his match against Liverpool last weekend.
Watford were smashed by the Reds 5-0 after Mohamed Salah was on hand to net four goals, while also providing an assist to Roberto Firmino. Jurgen Klopp’s men were completely dominant with 90 per cent more shots on target than the Hornets, and captain Troy Deeney will have been hurting after his side’s embarrassing defeat.
In spite of this, Klopp has revealed that the Watford skipper stayed behind in the tunnel after the game simply to congratulate every single Liverpool player, including the German himself, a gesture which impressed the Reds boss.
“He was waiting for all the players when we came in,” Klopp told the Mirror, “He was waiting and clapped hands with all of them.
“I didn’t know about that but he was really waiting, even for me.”
As a captain, this is the sportsmanlike behaviour that you should be setting as an example for fellow players and Deeney’s actions have clearly not gone unnoticed. Many would have let their frustrations get the better of them and would never have offered such a gesture.
Liverpool cut the gap on Manchester United to two points, with United having a game in hand, while Watford currently sit 11th in the table, level on points with 10th-placed Bournemouth.
