Southampton legend Jason Dodd believes Graeme Murty’s showing at Rangers since his permanent appointment has been enough to launch the young manager on to the radar of various clubs, according to the Sun.

The former Saints full-back worked alongside the current Gers boss as a coach in the Southampton Academy, when Murty was starting out and learning the trade.

So far, Murty has enjoyed a win rate of 73 per cent in his games in charge of Rangers, winning 16 and losing only five of his 22 games in charge so far.

His biggest test will come this weekend, as his side takes on Celtic at Ibrox in the most highly anticipated Scottish Premiership match for a number of seasons. But irrespective of the match, Dodd believes Murty has already done enough to entice clubs into making an approach for him.

For a first effort at senior management, in one of the highest pressure environments around, there is no doubt that the former Reading ace has done a remarkable job during his short reign at Ibrox.

“He’s got a deal until the end of the season and he’s putting himself in the shop window,” Dodd said.

“His win ratio is very good and if you’re the owner of a football club or a board, and you’re looking for a manager, that’s very attractive to you.

“Jobs will come up, he’s got to be in a strong position. Murts has sorted Rangers out and he has grabbed it by the balls.”

Even if teams come calling for Murty, as Dodd has suggested, it would surely take a huge job to entice the Rangers boss away from Ibrox, assuming he does enough to land the job beyond the current season.

Rangers is a massive club and the managerial position at Ibrox is undoubtedly more prestigious than most top flight Premier League clubs. Murty will be well aware of how fortunate he is as a manager with no experience to be sitting in the Gers hot seat.

First and foremost, before Murty even thinks about securing the job beyond the end of the campaign, his entire focus will be recording a historic win against arch rivals Celtic this Sunday, which would trigger a title race in Scotland for the first time in some years.
