Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos missed an important chance from three yards out against Celtic last weekend.

Prior to last Sunday’s Old Firm encounter, many Rangers fans had called for a rare start for Jason Cummings given Alfredo Morelos’s reputation for missing easy chances.
The Colombian striker has done superbly since joining Rangers from the Finnish league, and is currently the top scorer in the Scottish Premiership. However, Gers fans’ fears became reality as Morelos butchered a chance from three yards out with an open goal, hitting the post before the rebound was collected by Scott Bain.
A miss like that in a game of such importance is simply unforgivable for a team’s first choice striker and, regardless of the 17 strikes he has to his name so far this season, it seems only fair for the 21-year-old to make way for Jason Cummings who should be handed another chance to impress.
Cummings’ last start came in the Scottish Cup quarter-final match against Falkirk, in which the Nottingham Forest loanee put in a hat-trick performance.

So far, the former Hibs man has five goals in 10 appearances, although most of these have come from the bench with only one of the goals having been scored in the league.
In truth, of his performances so far, Cummings will not have fully convinced the Rangers board that he is worth investing in, but that is not to say he has done a poor job.
The striker may have made 10 appearances so far but his number of minutes on the pitch has not nearly been enough and, with Murty clearly now aware of what Morelos has to offer, for better and worse, Cummings should be allowed a run of games to also prove his worth to the board.
Following a missed opportunity like the one against Celtic, in the same way that a defender would be dropped for an unforgivable mistake at the back, the same should apply to a striker, and it would not be surprising to see Cummings line up in front of Candeias, Windass and Murphy as they take on Kilmarnock on Saturday.
