The Egyptian became the fastest player to reach 20 Premier League goals in Liverpool history.
Only Messi, dubbed as the greatest footballer to have ever lived by many individuals, is capable of the type of finish produced by Salah for Liverpool’s second goal, whose ability to dribble past defenders in such an acute fashion is only comparable to the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
With his two goals against Spurs, Salah became the fastest player in Liverpool history to score 20 Premier League goals. As it stands, the 25-year-old has 21 in 25 league games, and 28 in 33 in all competitions; a stunning return for anyone in their debut season at a club.
Salah’s second goal was simply magnificent as he somehow managed to take the ball past Ben Davies and Jan Vertonghen, only to then chip Hugo Lloris from close range to send Anfield into a frenzy as his side took re-took the lead.
According to the Daily Mail, Carragher told SkySports: “The only [other] man who can score that goal is Messi.
“If you think of Messi scoring goals, that’s what he does in the tight areas and dinks it over the goalkeeper.”
Although some may disagree, there are definitely comparable traits between the Argentine and the Egyptian. Both are fairly small in stature yet possess a wonderfully strong centre-of-gravity, which allows them to brush past bigger and stronger players with ease due to their mesmerising dribbling ability.
On top of their strength and ball control, both are evidently world-class finishers and, at 25, if Salah can continue this vein of form in the years ahead, he has every chance of reaching the summit of world football, just as Messi has.
Salah finds himself in a head-to-head battle with Harry Kane for this season’s Premier League Golden Boot.
As it stands, Kane slightly edges it with 22 goals, however, Salah has got the better of the England front man in terms of assists with six; five more than Kane’s single effort.
