With West Brom looking certain to go down, Brendan Rodgers will no doubt be looking to nab a former Premier League star on the cheap for Celtic.
With the end of the season drawing closer, clubs will begin to turn their attention to West Bromwich Albion, who look certain to face the drop, in an attempt to lure some of their Premier League stars away from the Hawthorns.
Despite their abysmal season suggesting otherwise, the Baggies still have a number of high calibre players on their roster, who could absolutely do a wonderful job elsewhere if given the opportunity to by another team.
The likes of Jonny Evans, Jake Livemore, Kieran Gibbs and Salomon Rondon are among the few who will be attracting attention from other clubs, but who would be most suited to a move north of the border to Celtic?
James McClean, due to the club’s strong tradition of signing Irish players, would be the obvious choice for the Hoops, and a realistic one at that. However, with Scott Sinclair’s future uncertain, perhaps Brendan Rodgers should be working his magic to try and bring in a different member of the West Brom attacking armoury.
England international Jay Rodriguez, 28, will surely be attracting attention from a number of Premier League suitors, however, the chance to work under Rodgers at a club where he will almost certainly win silverware may to an enticing prospect for the forward.
With the 28-year-old about to experience relegation with the Baggies, he will be wary of signing for another team that could potentially run the risk of facing the same fate, which could definitely play into Celtic’s favour.
It is well known that the Hoops have cash to spend, especially after earning some extra funds from Virgil van Dijk’s world record move to Liverpool from Southampton, and with Rodriguez at a cut price, he should definitely be within the range of Celtic’s affordability.
On top of this, the former Southampton star’s ability to play both centrally and on the flank will be an attractive quality that could be useful to Rodgers, especially considering the striker issues that the club have gone through this season, with both Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths having their fair share of injury problems.
James McClean would definitely also be a strong addition to the Celtic squad, but with Rodriguez also available, the Hoops should not overlook a player of such quality.
