Gunners legend Ian Wright was singing the praises of Sean Dyche and his Burnley side, who are now only two points behind Arsenal.
Burnley’s win over Leicester City on Saturday took them within two points of Arsenal, who were unable to defeat Newcastle, ensuring the Clarets are now one win away from overtaking the Gunners in sixth place.
Nobody would have predicted this from Burnley at the beginning of the season and their 2017/2018 campaign has been nothing short of remarkable. The England squads over the course of the season have featured four Burnley stars, two of whom earned their debut, and their Three Lions contingent is testament to the strong work of the squad.
But the man who deserves the most credit, and rightly so, has to be manager Sean Dyche, who continues to develop Burnley into the standout team outside the top six, with the chance to actually now become the newest member of that particular group.
When asked what it would mean to finish above Arsenal, Wright replied: “It would be [remarkable], for what he’s done and the resources he’s got. But he is a manager that players do respond to and he does have teams that are very energised.
“Even when they went through that spell when they hadn’t won for something like ten games, they still stayed amongst it, and he is always so positive.”
With five games left, the Clarets have two very tough games against London opposition, first hosting Chelsea at Turf Moor before making the trip to the Emirates to take on the Gunners.
With a trip to Old Trafford themselves, plus a knockout tie against Atletico Madrid to worry about, Arsene Wenger’s side do not have the easiest run of games and will likely drop further points in the league given their varied form this season, meaning that the meeting between Burnley and Arsenal on 6 May could be a genuine decider for sixth place.
