Nigel Adkins was seen in the stands watching transfer target Scott McKenna but McInnes has no plans to let the youngster leave.

Hull City’s top transfer target Scott McKenna, 21, produced a 40-yard wonder goal as Aberdeen defeated Kilmarnock 3-1 at Pittodrie at the weekend.

Following the youngster’s performance, Dons boss Derek McInnes reiterated the message that McKenna is not available for sale as he attempted to ward off interest from Tigers manager Nigel Adkins.

Over the course of the transfer window the Scottish club have already rejected three bids from the Championship club and, with the window closing on Wednesday, Aberdeen are bracing themselves for one final advance.

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Aberdeen at Ibrox Stadium on January 24, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

According to the BBC, McInnes said: “The phone is off the hook regarding him for the next few days.

“We spoke to Hull again [on Friday] and reinforced the message that he won’t be sold, certainly not in this window.”

The manager went on to give a glowing review of his defender, following the 21-year-old’s brilliant performance against Killie.

“He’s doing himself no harm, he’s in a good place, his overall game is magnificent.,” he said. “People remember the strike but I thought he was outstanding, covering the ground, a young boy getting more and more confident with each game he plays. He’s a constant threat at set-plays and there’s a lot more to come from him.

“It reinforces the confidence in the boy to step in and take that shot on when no-one else in the ground thought it was the right decision.”

Like any young Scottish player performing well, transfer speculation surrounding his future is not going to go away. Aberdeen may be able to hold on to their player this January but, at 21, it is likely Adkins and Hull will come calling again in the summer.

The club have already let go of Kenny McLean, who signed for Norwich City earlier this month. The midfielder returned to Pittodrie on loan for the rest of the season to help the Dons see out the rest of their 2017/2018 campaign.
