After impressing during his trial period with Serie B outfit Bari, Celtic’s Liam Henderson, 21, has earned himself a contract according to the Daily Record.

While training with Bari, the Scotland under-21 international made two appearances in trial games, with his performances greatly impressing Fabio Grosso.

It is believed that Henderson will initially join Bari on loan with his current Celtic deal set to expire in the summer.

The Livingston born midfielder has made 36 appearances for the Hoops and has been loaned out twice previously, first with Rosenborg and then Hibernian.

The youngster enjoyed a hugely impressive spell at Easter Road, playing an integral part in their 2016 Scottish Cup Final win over Rangers in which he assisted both the equalising and winning goals.

Unfortunately for Henderson, with competition for places at Celtic as competitive as they have ever been, the 21-year-old has found himself on the fringes of Brendan Rodgers’ squad and will be pleased to have sealed a move away.

Bari are right in the mix for promotion this season currently sitting fourth, five points behind leaders Palermo, and the prospect of playing in Italy’s top flight next season must be a huge incentive for the Scottish talent.

In moving to Bari, Henderson joins an elite group of Scots who made the switch to Italy with the likes of Dennis Law, Graeme Souness and Joe Jordan all having moved to Italian clubs during their stellar careers.
