The Edinburgh club confirmed they are in search of a new midfielder and striker before the transfer window closes.
Hearts manager Craig Levein has confirmed that the club are in search of another midfielder and striker to add to the squad.
The Northern Irishman has scored 11 goals in all competitions and would be a big miss for the Tynecastle club. However, with the revenue generated from a Lafferty sale, the club could reinvest in a new target.
The Hearts forward is set to return from suspension for the Celtic match on Tuesday night, with Celtic looking for revenge following their humiliating 4-0 defeat at the hands of Hearts, which ended their 69-game unbeaten run.
Speaking to the Edinburgh Evening News, Levein said: “Hopefully we can get some bodies in before the window closes just to strengthen things even more.
“We need a striker, although we have Kyle back tomorrow night. We want somebody who knows how to handle this league or a league like it so I’m working on a number of things.
“I’m also looking for another midfield player, a more defensive type. With David Milinkovic, Anthony McDonald, Harry Cochrane and Danny Amankwaa, we have quite a lot of creativity in there. We lack somebody who does the holding job as well to allow us to be even braver going forward.”
Hearts recently let go of forward Esmael Goncalves to Uzbekistan, and allowing Lafferty to go would leave the club a forward short. However, with Steven Naismith now at his disposal, Levein will still be feeling positive about his attacking options.
The Scotland international has made three appearances for the Jambos since his arrival from Norwich and could play a huge part against his former Old Firm rivals Celtic tomorrow evening.
