Ian Wright is unhappy with Wenger’s decision to play bad boy Alex Iwobi.
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has publicly stated his disappointment over Arsene Wenger’s decision to play Alex Iwobi, 21, following an incident last week.
The Nigerian midfielder was claimed to have been spotted at a party in the early hours of the morning less than 48 hours before Arsenal’s FA Cup tie versus Nottingham Forest last Sunday which the Gunners embarrassingly lost 4-2.
Videos of Iwobi screaming and dancing between 2-3am surfaced with Wenger describing the youngster’s behaviour as “unacceptable” and assuring that he would be fined accordingly as was reported by SkySports.
Despite his stern words Wenger decided to play Iwobi in last night’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Chelsea drawing much criticism from his former front man Ian Wright.
Speaking on SkySports’ the Debate Wright said, “For a youngster to do that says to me that there is something wrong in the dressing room.”
“You can’t have a youngster feeling like he can do that and still play. Arsene Wenger should have had a stronger stance on this one.”
“People laugh at Arsenal and see them as a bit of a joke at the moment.”
“Players don’t want to be there and it feels like everything is losing control at Arsenal.”
The Nigerian international has become somewhat of a regular in Wenger’s side and is a player that the Frenchman clearly values, defending his own decision to include Iwobi in the team in his post-match press conference.
“It is one thing to punish somebody individually and a second thing to punish everybody,” Wenger said.
“If I think he can help the team to win it is nothing to do with the face he can be punished separately and individually.”
