The Glasgow Rangers pair are set to miss a crucial period of upcoming fixtures against some of the leagues finest.

Graeme Murty, Manager of Rangers looks on prior to the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park on December 30, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Rangers have been hit with a double injury blow ahead of this weekend’s Scottish Cup tie against Fraserburgh FC according to the Scottish Sun.

Manager Graeme Murty was informed that he would be without both Ross McCrorie and Bruno Alves, who are both set for significant stints on the side-lines.

McCrorie, 19, picked up a foot injury last month against Ross County. However he managed it well and was able to get through the festive fixtures. Unfortunately for the youth academy product, the injury was aggravated during Rangers’ winter training trip to Florida and the youngster is expected to miss the next seven league matches.

Ross McCrorie of Rangers receives medical attention during the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Ranger at Celtic Park on December 30, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

This is a disastrous blow for Rangers, who have upcoming fixtures against Hibs, Hearts and Aberdeen, all of which McCrorie is expected to miss.

Bruno Alves was also confirmed injured and is expected to return in mid-February after a calf tear. The 36-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Ibrox this month but, with this injury, it is unlikely that will now happen given the Portuguese veteran’s age.

The Euro 2016 winner only lasted a disappointing 18 minutes against Celtic last month before leaving the field to receive treatment.

Bruno Alves of Rangers arrives at the stadium prior to the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Ranger at Celtic Park on December 30, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Murty will take some positivity out of the fact he has strengthened well this January, however.

Russell Martin was brought in, adding a centre-back option which will now counter McCrorie’s absence, while Sean Goss and the return of Andy Halliday will boost Rangers midfield.
