Rangers were handed a massive boost to their season when it was confirmed that Jamie Murphy would be signing from Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal worth £1million.

Glasgow-born Rangers fan Murphy could not contain his delight having signed for his boyhood club and has been tipped by many to be a huge success at Ibrox.

The 28-year-old who has just earned his dream career move has never been capped by Scotland despite playing much of his career in the English Championship. Murphy made it into a Scotland squad for the first time in 2016, however, he did not feature in either friendly fixture.

His highest representation for Scotland has been at under-21 level, where he won 14 caps during 2008-2010.

Now on the books with Rangers former Celtic and Brighton defender Adam Virgo has backed Murphy to make an impact, not only on the SPFL, but also on the international scene.

“Rangers are signing a very good player; someone who can run with the ball, is very direct and brave, something you need to be in front of a big Ibrox crowd,” Virgo said, according to the Daily Record.

“This move could also help him get into the Scotland team. If you look at Charlie Mulgrew, he’s playing League One with Blackburn and is one of the first names on the international team sheet.”

With Scotland still yet to appoint a manager to replace Gordon Strachan, Murphy has plenty of time to impress, but first and foremost he will have his heart set on helping his new side to as strong a finish as possible by closing the gap on Celtic between now and May.
