Liverpool’s German shot-stopper Loris Karius endured a tough start to life at Anfield, but appears to finally be coming good.

Loris Karius of Liverpool celebrates his sides second goal during the Premier League match between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on February 4, 2018 in Liverpool, England.

Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius finally appears to be reaching the heights that were expected of him following his move from Mainz in 2016.

The German goalie enjoyed three successful seasons starting in the Bundesliga for Mainz, before earning a move to the Premier League to team up with compatriot and former Mainz legend Jurgen Klopp.

After enduring a tough start to life in England, Karius was dropped for the similarly under-performing Simon Mignolet, whose poor form was the initial reason the German was bought in the first place.

Last season, Karius was resigned to only 10 appearances in the Premier League but, since January this year, he has been reinstated as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, seizing his shot at redemption with both hands.

Karius’s start to life in England has echoes of a certain David de Gea, who also endured a similarly tough beginning in the Premier League.

The Spaniard arrived at Old Trafford with much promise in his early 20s, but following some shaky performances was dropped due to his inability to cope with the demands of England’s top flight.

Following stints on the bench, Sir Alex Ferguson decided to hand De Gea a second shot, and he has since developed into a goalkeeper whom most dub as the best in the world.

With this all taking place in Karius’s neighbouring city of Manchester, the German is well aware of what he should be aiming for.

Karius and Mignolet’s poor form led to Liverpool being heavily linked with a move for Roma’s Brazilian ‘keeper Alisson.

The Reds were unsuccessful in their pursuit of the 25-year-old, however, if Karius can kick on from this promising period, failure to land the shot stopper will not be as disastrous as first imagined.

On top of this, Alisson has grown from a cup goalkeeper to Roma’s standout first choice, having only played in European competition last season for the Stadio Olimpico side, and the Serie A giants will not be looking to part ways with the Brazilian lightly.
