Josh Windass and Alfredo Morelos are stealing the headlines, but Greg Docherty and Sean Goss keep Rangers ticking over

Rangers legend Barry Ferguson has been highly impressed with the two young January arrivals in the middle of the park.

Former Rangers and Scotland captain Barry Ferguson has been highly impressed with the recent form of his old club who have gone about reducing the deficit at the top of the table in bold fashion.

The Gers have five wins from their last five games and have a chance on the weekend to progress to the Scottish Cup Semi-Finals on their quest for a first major trophy since the club’s financial meltdown in 2012.

Speaking to PLZ Soccer, Ferguson highlighted Rangers’ current free scoring ability as one of the most impressive aspects of Graeme Murty’s current crop of players, however, there are two January arrivals in particular who have particularly impressed the former midfield man.

Tuesday night’s league match against St Johnstone saw both Josh Windass and Alfredo Morelos get on the score sheet once again, with both attackers having now directly contributed to 17 goals each this season.

Morelos stands as the Scottish Premiership’s top scorer on 13, whilst Windass is not far behind as the third top scorer on 11.

But despite grabbing the headlines week in week out with their goal scoring, who has Ferguson been most impressed with in the club’s recent resurgence?

“They controlled the game [against St Jonhstone] and they were ruthless,” the Rangers legend told PLZ Soccer.

“That’s one thing that Rangers have started being in the last couple of weeks.

“They’ve started to score a few goals and they’re hitting top form just now.

“Some individuals performances I was impressed with was [Sean] Goss in the middle of the park, he’s been a real find for Rangers, and [Greg] Docherty as well, he’s starting to come onto a game.”

Ferguson branded Docherty’s pass Windass which led to Rangers’ second goal as ‘exceptional’ and believes the former Hamilton youngster will be a big player for the Gers in the coming years.

Goss, who is currently on loan from QPR, also got on the score sheet, and has contributed magnificently to the team since arriving in January.

Unfortunately for Graeme Murty, the more Goss continues to perform, the less likely they will be able to pry him away from West London on a permanent basis, with Manchester United also possessing a buy-back clause on their former youth player.

Nevertheless, as Ferguson expects them to, the midfield duo will continue to have a huge part to play in the season run in for the Gers as they look to reduce the gap even further by recording a historic victory over Celtic at Ibrox next weekend.
