The Everton under-23 side defeated Swansea under-23s last night, the first game Swansea City have lost since October 2017.

Yesterday evening capped off a good day for Everton as the Toffees under-23 sides ran out 2-0 victors over Swansea City, the first game the Swans have lost in their last nine outings.

The victory also saw the return to competitive football for Ramiro Funes Mori and Davy Klaassen, who have both spent stints on the sidelines due to injury.

Having suffered some nasty defeats in their last couple of fixtures, including a 3-1 loss to Derby Count and 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Arsenal in February, defeating the unbeaten Swans was a massive statement of intent.

19-year-old Antony Evans, who has been knocking on the door of the first-team through his performances for the Everton youngsters, captained the side from midfield and scored a sublime free-kick just past the 20-minute mark.

Evans picked up some valuable loan experience away at League Two side Morcambe in the latter half of last season, making 15 appearances for the Shrimps and scoring two goals.

Turning out predominantly for the Everton under-23s this season, perhaps a further loan deal in a higher league such as League One or even the Championship would stand Evans in good stead ahead of next season, with the youngster surely having his eyes on a first senior call up for the Toffees.

Nevertheless, the teenager cannot be doing much more than captaining his fellow youngsters to further victories, especially when he has such a big hand to play with efforts such as his strike against Swansea last night.
