Balague suggests AC Milan star as potential Courtois replacement at Chelsea.

Thibaut Courtois of Chelsea reacts during the Premier League match between Arsenal and Chelsea at Emirates Stadium on January 3, 2018 in London, England.

Guillem Balague has hinted that Real Madrid target Thibaut Courtois could be trying to force Los Blancos to make a move for him by suggesting that he will sign a new contract with Chelsea.

Real have made it no secret that they are keen on landing the former Atletico Madrid man’s signature in recent years, having struggled to bring in their other main goalkeeping target David De Gea, also a former Atleti player.

According to Balague, Courtois’ indication that he is in advanced talks with the Stamford Bridge club over a new contract is a tactical decision to spark Real Madrid into finally making a move to try to land the Belgium international whose preferred destination is the Bernabeu.

Speaking to SkySports Balague said, “Courtois wants to go to Real Madrid. Chelsea knows that. Real want Courtois.

“Courtois mentioned that he was close to renewing his contract, as a way of putting pressure on Real Madrid.

“He wants Real Madrid to reach an agreement with Chelsea now, for the summer, in which case that’ll give Chelsea time to find a replacement.”

Gianluigi Donnarumma of AC Milan salutes the fans at the end of the Serie A match between AC Milan and Bologna FC at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on December 10, 2017 in Milan, Italy.

With regards to a suitable replacement Balague suggested, “Maybe Donnarumma of AC Milan?”

There is no doubt that losing Courtois would be a massive blow for Chelsea; however, bringing in a youngster of Donnarumma’s quality would be no bad replacement.

Still only 18, the Italian international has played over 100 games for AC Milan winning his first trophy, the Supercoppa Italiana, in 2016.

Should Courtois earn his move to Madrid, Balague believes Chelsea should look no further than the San Siro for their new man between the sticks.
