Cenk Tosun has cracked Premier League football according to Duncan Ferguson

The Turkish forward endured a slow start to life in England, but Cenk Tosun now has a record of nearly a goal every other game for Everton.

Cenk Tosun arrived at Goodison Park with huge expectations after signing from Besiktas in January.

The Turkish striker had proven his prolific goal-scoring ability in his native land, having netted 41 times over the last two seasons, and arrived on Merseyside in January with 14 strikes to his name during the current campaign.

After a slow start, and a couple of appearances off the bench, Tosun has grown into his position at Everton, leading the line and looking like an accomplished Premier League striker and, despite only playing 10 games so far, he is the club’s fifth top scorer already this season.

Speaking to the official Everton website, first-team coach Duncan Ferguson was quick to praise the 26-year-old, suggesting Tosun has quickly settled into life in England and has figured out the pace and demands of Premier League football.

According to the Scot, it has been Tosun’s variation in terms of goals that has been most impressive, suggesting that he is by no means a one-dimensional striker and is capable of producing the goods from a whole host of areas.

“He’s a finisher,” Ferguson said, “I’ve worked with players before and he’s a finisher. You know, in the main, if he gets a chance, he’ll stick it in.

“I think he’s found the pace of the game now. When he was at Besiktas he had a winter break and he came back maybe not quite ready. But we continued to work with him.

“He’s sharpened up and managed to get a couple of goals. We hope that continues.”

Everton have been crying out for a worthy striker to lead the line all season, with Wayne Rooney proving to be perhaps slightly beyond the days of playing as an out-and-out number nine, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin is perhaps too inexperienced to carry the weight of the team up front on his own just yet.

With Tosun now on the books, a pre-season under his belt could see the Turkish international hit the ground running next campaign and could be a vital player at Goodison Park for years to come.

There is no doubt the Toffees squad is still a bit light in terms of forward options. However, the fans will be feeling extra confident after Tosun proved he can handle the pressure in England’s top flight.
