The last six months have seen Jack Hendry go from promising young Scottish Premiership player to a member of the champions and a Scotland international.
The last six months have seen Celtic centre-half Jack Hendry fasttrack himself to the top of the Scottish game, having secured a move to Celtic during the January window and earning a Scotland call-up at the first time of asking.
The 22-year-old put in some fine performances for Dundee before earning his move to Celtic Park. However, surely he could not have predicted his meteoric rise from Dundee starlet to starting Scotland centre-back.
“I’m all about learning and just getting as much information as possible so to play alongside an experienced top-class player like Charlie [Mulgrew] was really good,” Hendry told STV.
“I’ve always backed my own ability. Obviously some people will think it’s happened quicker than others but I always thought I would get to this point and now it’s about trying to maintain it and keep on improving.
“I feel every young player should have that ambition of playing for their country. It’s a great honour for myself to do that and hopefully this will be the first of many.”
Despite only making five Celtic appearances so far, Hendry has demonstrated enough to the fans to show why he warranted the move. A useful player on the ball, the youngster’s frame also makes him quite the physical presence, and his composure was evident for all to see when he was added to the fray under difficult circumstances in his side’s recent 3-2 victory over Rangers, after Jozo Simunovic was dismissed for an elbow on Alfredo Morelos.
In the likes of Charlie Mulgrew and fellow youngster Scott McKenna, who was arguably the biggest positive to come out of the international break for Scotland, Hendry faces some stuff competition in the heart of defence. However, there is no doubt that he will continue to be considered so long as he carries on working hard for Celtic.
