Celtic midfield prospect Scott Robertson netted a double against Rangers in last night’s 5-2 victory.
Celtic under-17s defeated Rangers under-17s 5-2 in the Glasgow Cup last night, a fitting warm up for Sunday’s Old Firm derby proper.
The young Hoops are the current defending champions, having won the competition in impressive fashion for the previous four seasons.
Scotland and England prospect Karamoko Dembele started for the Celts and bagged his side’s fourth goal, however, was completely outshone by fellow Celtic youngster Scott Robertson.
Robertson put his side ahead after just five minutes, only for Rangers to claw their way back into the game. With the match level at 2-2, Robertson came up with the goods once again to send Celtic into the lead for a second time, spurring on a dominant second half performance that saw the Hoops pull away, recording an emphatic 5-2 victory.
This is not the first time this season that Robertson has gotten the better of his Rangers counterparts, having also sealed his side’s victory against the young Gers in December.
Yesterday’s victory gave the Celtic fans a bright glimpse of the future as the likes of Robertson and Dembele begin to near the age when senior debuts tend to be won.
With Dembele having been launched onto the world radar after playing for the Celtic under-20s aged just 13, the Hoops will be hoping to mould him into a first team player and make as much use of his talent before the inevitable interest from richer clubs further afield begins to steadily stream in.
Regardless, the future looks bright for Celtic.
