Celtic midfield ace Tom Rogic’s current deal is set to expire after next season and is yet to sign a new contract with the Hoops.
Celtic must table a lucrative offer to keep Tom Rogic at the club beyond the end of his current deal, with the midfielders contract set to expire in summer 2019.
The 25-year-old has gone from strength to strength since breaking into the Celtic first team and has grown to become one of the most feared creative players in the Scottish league. This campaign has been somewhat disrupted due to injury, but when the Australian has played, he has not shown any sign of losing his touch.
With the World Cup just round the corner, it feels imperative that the Celts tie Rogic down with a new contract, before he inevitably attracts interest from more powerful clubs further a field, who will no doubt come knocking for his services in the summer transfer window.
Reports emerged from Australia earlier this year claiming that the Socceroos star has rejected a new deal from the Celts and was unhappy with the terms they offered. However, it was believed that should the terms meet the player’s demands, he would happily resign.
Former Australia captain Paul Wade has publicly advised Rogic to wait until after the World Cup to consider his future, explaining that it would be doubly beneficial for the player to do so, having showcased his talent to both Celtic and other clubs.
If opting to do so, Rogic will ideally have lured Celtic into offering him an improved deal, whilst in theory, should have offers from a number of clubs around Europe. Obviously, this situation favours the player over the club, which is why it is so important for Celtic to wrap up Rogic in a new deal before he departs for Russia.
Speaking to WA Today, Wade said: “I don’t have a problem with any player thinking to themselves ‘you know what I’m going to put in and deliver here so that I can get a new deal or go to a new club’.
“Scouts will have been looking at him for the last couple of years, people know exactly who he is and what he does, but they want to see him do it on the biggest stage.
“He’s an absolute gun and is going to be our most influential player in Russia, without a doubt.”
With 24 goals in 116 appearances for the Celts since signing in 2013, including a late winner against Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final last season to seal the club’s treble winning season, Rogic has done more than enough in his time in the Hoops to prove his worth to the club, and Brendan Rodgers and Peter Lawwell should be doing all in their power to retain his services for the years to come.
