On loan Celtic right-back Anthony Ralston will be looking to finish the season strong and help Dundee United to promotion in the hope to capture Brendan Rodgers’ attention.

Celtic teenager Anthony Ralston would have been hopeful of taking over the right-back position from the dwindling Mikael Lustig after a strong start to the season which saw him earn a start in the Champions League against PSG at Celtic Park.

Unfortunately for the 19-year-old, injuries have meant he has been unable to string together a long run in the team, and following his return to fitness, lost out on his spot in the squad to the Swedish veteran.

In search of some first team football, Ralston was sent out on an emergency loan deal to Scottish Championship side Dundee United, in a bid to help them on their push for promotion.

Since joining the Tangerines, Ralston has made six appearances, scoring one goal along the way, and is convinced he can help the Tannadice club back into the top flight before the end of his loan.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun after United’s 3-2 loss to Dumbarton, Ralston said: “We were hoping to create momentum by getting a run going, so this is a setback, but we’ll pick ourselves up.

“Anyone watching the game again will realise it shouldn’t have turned out the way it did. These things happen, though, it’s about how you deal with them.”

Not only did Ralston bag his side’s opener, he also set up former Celt Scott McDonald for United’s second, and was by far the side’s standout player.

With two games in hand over Dunfermline, who sit ahead of them in the table, Dundee United still look likely to make the play-offs, and regardless of whether they win promotion or not, Ralston can be pleased with his showing in an orange shirt so far and will likely have done enough to prove his ability to Rodgers with next season in mind.
