The 35-year-old suffered a knee injury against Hibs at the weekend and could miss the majority of the rest of season.
Celtic’s injury crisis has gone from bad to worse following injuries suffered by Leigh Griffiths and Craig Gordon against Hibs last weekend.
Both players are set to miss the upcoming Europa League knock-out tie against Zenit St Petersburg, with Gordon potentially out for the rest of the season.
The 35-year-old suffered a bad knee knock in a serious coming together with former Celtic defender Efe Ambrose.
The Parkhead faithful will have had their hearts in their mouths when the realisation of another knee injury arose. However, the current issue is thought to be entirely separate from Gordon’s near career-ending knee problem which saw him miss two years of his career.
In Gordon’s absence, Dorus De Vries will step into the number 1 role. However, with teenager Conor Hazard sent on loan to Falkirk just last Friday, the club are in dire need to goalkeeping back-up with just a few days left to add to their squad in the January window.
“Both are struggling. It looks like Leigh’s calf and he has had issues with them,” Rodgers said.
“Craig looks a bit more serious in terms of his knee, we need to have a look at that in the scan so it looks like he could be out for a period of time.
“We sent young Conor Hazard out on loan to get experience. So that is an area we might need to look at for sure.
“We will see over the next couple of days and hopefully we can confirm one or two signings which will be a great lift for the squad.”
With only one senior goalkeeper left in the squad, it will be imperative for Celtic to bring in some form of reinforcement before the end of the window.
