Celtic teenager Kristoffer Ajer has been named in the Norway squad for the first time in his career.
Celtic’s teenage prodigy Kristoffer Ajer has won his first international call up to the Norway senior team, after rising to prominence with the Hoops this season.
Still only 19, Ajer, who was signed before the Brendan Rodgers era by Norwegian coach Ronny Deila, has enjoyed a run in the first-team this season and has looked calm and assured, playing well beyond his years and becoming Celtic’s best defender.
The Norwegian spent much of last season’s treble-winning campaign on loan at Kilmarnock, picking up some valuable experience starting week in, week out in the Scottish Premiership, which has clearly stood him in good stead for the current term.
Ajer, who can also be deployed in central midfield if necessary, has been capped at every level of Norwegian youth football, and last year won five caps for the under-21 side.
The 19-year-old joins a national team captained by former Celt Stefan Johansen, who has developed into one of the finest performers in the Championship with Fulham after three impressive seasons in Glasgow with the Hoops.
Fellow Celtic centre-half Erik Sviatchenko, who is currently on loan with FC Midtjylland, was quick to take to Twitter to congratulate his teenage counterpart, while many other Bhoys fans also gave their congratulations.
