Having overseen 20 league games for the Gers each, just how exactly do their records compare?

Ranger’s 2-0 win over Patrick Thistle away last night marked the 20th game in charge of the club for Graeme Murty.

The former Rangers youth coach took over the senior side after Pedro Caixinha was axed in October 2017.

The Portuguese left the club as the shortest serving manager in the club’s history after only 229 days in charge.

With both Murty and Caixinha having been in charge for 20 Rangers league matches, just how exactly do their records compare?

Rangers manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Aberdeen at Ibrox Stadium on January 24, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Of course, statistics only tell part of the story, however, it will likely come as a surprise to most that Pedro Caixinha actually comes out on top when it comes to their competitive record in the league.

Both managers experienced 11 wins in their first 20 games, with Murty losing seven, three worse than Caixinha’s four.

As a result, it means that the Portuguese actually earned three more points than Murty in their first 20 Premiership fixtures in charge, which Rangers fans will no doubt find interesting to hear.

Despite these statistics, they do not tell the story of the manner in which Caixinha’s side lost some of their fixtures, a few of which will haunt the Ibrox faithful for many years to come.

Pedro Caixinha, Manager of Rangers looks on during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Stadium on September 23, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Across the three Glasgow derby games that the Portuguese oversaw, nine goals were conceded and only one scored, with the 5-1 dismantling of Rangers by Celtic at Ibrox going down as arguably the worst home loss in the club’s history.

Murty, however, set his team up to produce a stunning display at Celtic Park in December, with the Gers missing out on the opportunity to beat Celtic in their own back yard as the two sides played out a 0-0 draw.

Nonetheless, the record after 20 games for each manager cannot be ignored.

Statistics aside, there is no doubt that Murty has begun to re-establish a good feeling around the blue side of Glasgow, that was so lost during Caixhina’s albeit short tenure.
